In the ever-evolving landscape of mobile communication, the way businesses interact with their customers is undergoing a transformation. One significant shift is the rise of A2P 10DLC (Application-to-Person 10-Digit Long Code), a mechanism that seeks to enhance the quality of SMS/MMS messages, reduce spam, and foster more meaningful interactions. In this blog, we’ll explore the crucial details of A2P 10DLC and how it impacts businesses.

What is A2P 10DLC?

In compliance with phone carrier prerequisites (such as Verizon, AT&T, and others), Ringblaze is obligated to gather details pertaining to your organization. One such regulation is what is referred to as “Application-to-person 10-digit long codes,” or A2P 10DLC.

A2P 10DLC is a messaging system that lets businesses use regular 10-digit phone numbers to send messages to customers, enhancing personalization and engagement while complying with industry regulations.

This new regulation is a good thing. It will make it easier for businesses to communicate with their customers through SMS. Customers will be able to easily identify the source of messages and have a better experience interacting with companies.

A2P 10DLC: Who’s affected?

All organizations that send text messages to ten-digit US phone numbers are required to register.

Outgoing SMS/MMS messages from unregistered numbers will be blocked.

How to register for A2P 10DLC

Every operational workspace owner and administrator in Ringblaze can use our US carrier registration form to comply with A2P guidelines via the web or desktop application. Just navigate to the left-hand menu, click on “Settings,” and then choose “Trust” to access the form.

During the registration process, you’ll be asked to provide information about your business and your messaging usage.

If you are a U.S. business with an EIN, a Canadian business with a Canadian Business Number, or are headquartered in any country outside of the U.S. or Canada, you must register with EIN or tax ID.

Registering for businesses with an EIN or tax ID number

For businesses with an EIN or a comparable tax ID number, the registration process requires attention to detail. To initiate registration on behalf of your company, ensure you possess an EIN or a valid business identification number.

Upon successfully completing this registration, your workspace will attain Low Volume Standard status, providing you with the following privileges:

  • Sending up to 6,000 message segments daily, including a maximum of 2,000 segments to T-Mobile numbers (subject to our Fair Use Policy).
  • Texting from any phone number associated with your Ringblaze workspace. Any additional numbers added post-registration approval will automatically align with your approved registration.

Registering for businesses or users without an EIN or tax ID number

This is available only for U.S. or Canadian customers who do not have an EIN or Canadian Business Number.

You’ll need the following to register through our sole proprietor path:

  • a US or Canadian address.
  • a working mobile number with a country code of +1 to receive a confirmation code.

It’s important to note that if you have multiple phone numbers associated with Ringblaze, only one of these numbers will be eligible to send texts to US numbers when you opt for registration through the sole proprietor pathway.

Interested in enabling multiple phone numbers for texting? If you’re situated in the US, acquiring an EIN is necessary. For those located outside the US, an alternative form of business identification is required.

Upon the completion of a successful registration process, you’ll have the capability to send up to 3,000 message segments per day, including a maximum of 1,000 segments to T-Mobile numbers (subject to adherence to our Fair Use Policy).

Cost

There are two parts to the registration process, each of which has associated fees:

  1. Brand Registration
  2. Campaign Registration

All other fees are mandatory. Except for the monthly management fee charged by Ringblaze to process and manage the registration, other fees are charged by The Campaign Registry (TCR), not by Ringblaze (meaning no matter what texting platform you use, you will incur the same cost).

Brand Registration Fees

Brand registration constitutes the initial phase of the SMS Registration process.

TCR verifies the authenticity of your US business by soliciting information about your business type and details (anticipate requests for your Tax ID, Company Website, etc.).

It’s important to note that brand registration fees are applicable for each brand application.

Campaign fees

Messaging Registration, also recognized as Campaign registration, entails the procedure of enlisting your organization’s outbound SMS traffic.

The process encompasses one-time setup fees for a campaign, accompanied by monthly recurring fees contingent upon the campaign’s category. Certain clients might necessitate multiple campaign types due to diverse usage scenarios.

You will have three options for registering A2P 10DLC depending on your use cases: Sole Proprietor, Low Volume Standard, or Standard.
